The short answer
Indian passport holders do need a visa for Azerbaijan, but it's one of the easier ones. India is eligible for the ASAN e-Visa, applied for online on the official portal, evisa.gov.az, and sent to you by email. There's no embassy visit and no appointment.
The standard e-Visa has a US$20 state fee and is issued within 3 working days. The urgent e-Visa costs US$50 and is issued within 3 hours, even on holidays. Either way it's single entry, valid for 90 days from issue, and lets you stay up to 30 days.
What it costs
Standard e-Visa
US$20 state fee (roughly ₹1,900), issued within 3 working days. This is the one almost everyone needs.
Urgent e-Visa
US$50 state fee (roughly ₹4,800), issued within 3 hours, including weekends and holidays. A backup if you've left it late.
The portal adds a small service charge on top of the state fee at checkout, so most travellers pay around US$25–29 in total for the standard visa, about ₹2,400–2,800. Whatever the payment screen shows on the day is what you'll pay. Fees aren't refunded if an application is rejected, which is one more reason to type everything carefully.
What you need before you start
- A passport valid for at least 6 months from the date you arrive in Azerbaijan.
- A clear scan or photo of your passport's photo page.
- Your arrival date and the address of your hotel in Baku. If you're travelling with us, we send you both once your booking is confirmed.
- A credit or debit card enabled for international online payments. Domestic-only cards are a common reason payment fails.
- An email address you check, because that's where the visa arrives.
How to apply, step by step
1. Use the official portal only
Apply on evisa.gov.az. Search results are full of lookalike "Azerbaijan e-visa" sites that charge two or three times the government fee for the same visa, so check the address before you pay.
2. Pick India and your dates
Choose India as your nationality, enter your arrival date, and select the standard e-Visa unless you're short on time.
3. Fill in your details exactly
Enter your name, date of birth and passport number exactly as they appear on your passport, then upload the photo page. A small mismatch is enough to get an application rejected, and you'd pay again to reapply.
4. Pay and keep your reference
Pay online and save the application number. You can check the status on the portal, and the visa comes by email once it's issued.
5. Print it and carry it
Download the e-Visa, check every detail against your passport, and carry a printed copy plus one on your phone. You'll show it at check-in in Delhi and at immigration in Baku.
When to apply for New Year in Baku
Party Passport's Baku New Year trip runs 4 nights and 5 days through Baku, Gobustan and Absheron, from 30 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, with return flights from Delhi included. Three working days sounds like plenty, but New Year week is the one time it isn't: 31 December, 1 January and 2 January are public holidays in Azerbaijan, and they don't count as working days.
- Best window: mid-November to early December. The visa is valid for 90 days from issue, so applying in November is no problem for a 30 December arrival.
- Latest sensible date: about 15 December. That leaves time to fix a typo and reapply before the holiday rush.
- If you've missed it: the urgent e-Visa (US$50, 3 hours) is issued on holidays too, but treat it as a backup, not the plan.
- Before you fly: have the e-Visa printed and on your phone, and check your passport has at least 6 months left from 30 December.
Things people get wrong
- Expecting a visa on arrival. India isn't on Azerbaijan's visa on arrival list. Without an approved e-Visa, the airline won't board you in Delhi.
- Paying an agent site by mistake. If the price is well over US$30 for a standard visa, you're probably not on evisa.gov.az.
- Thinking it allows several trips. It's single entry. If you leave Azerbaijan, you'll need a new e-Visa to come back.
- Worrying about registration. Foreign visitors staying more than 15 days have to register their address with Azerbaijan's State Migration Service. On a 5-day group trip, this doesn't apply.
Fees, processing times and validity are correct as of October 2026, based on the e-Visa terms published by Azerbaijan's embassies. Service charges vary, so check the total on evisa.gov.az before you pay.
FAQ
Do Indians need a visa for Azerbaijan?
Yes. Indian passport holders aren't visa-exempt for Azerbaijan, but India is on the list of countries eligible for the ASAN e-Visa. You apply online on the official portal, evisa.gov.az, and get the visa by email, so there's no embassy appointment for a normal holiday.
How much does the Azerbaijan e-Visa cost for Indians?
The state fee is US$20 for a standard e-Visa and US$50 for an urgent one, as listed by Azerbaijan's embassies. The portal adds a small service charge at checkout, so most travellers end up paying around US$25–29 for the standard visa, roughly ₹2,400–2,800 at October 2026 rates. Fees aren't refunded if the application is rejected.
How long does the Azerbaijan e-Visa take?
The standard e-Visa is issued within 3 working days. The urgent e-Visa is issued within 3 hours, including on holidays and weekends. Working days exclude Azerbaijan's public holidays, and 31 December, 1 January and 2 January are all holidays, so don't leave a New Year application to the last week of December.
How long can I stay on an Azerbaijan e-Visa?
Up to 30 days, on a single entry. The visa is valid for 90 days from the date it's issued, so you have to enter within that window. A 5-day New Year trip fits comfortably.
Can Indians get a visa on arrival in Azerbaijan?
Don't plan on it. Azerbaijan's visa on arrival is limited to a short list of countries, and India isn't one of them. Get the e-Visa approved before you fly, because the airline will ask for it at check-in in Delhi.
Does Party Passport apply for my Azerbaijan visa?
Each traveller applies for and pays for their own e-Visa, since it's tied to your passport and card, and the visa isn't included in the trip price. Once you've booked our Baku New Year trip, we share the hotel and flight details you'll need for the form and help on WhatsApp if anything gets stuck.
